Alleluia! Christ is Risen

The exuberant praise of Handel’s “Alleluia chorus” is a wondeful expression of Easter joy. For the 40 days of lent we have been forbidden to sing or say “Alleluia”. We can contain oursleves no longer. Now that Christ is Risen the whole of creation seems to cry out….

Alleluia,  Alleluia, Alleluia
Alleluia, Alleluia,  Alleluia [3x]

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth
Alleluia  Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia [2x]

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth [3x]
The kingdom of this world
is become
the kingdom of our God
and of his Christ
and he shall reign

for ever and ever
King of Kings
for ever and ever
and Lord of Lords

for ever and ever

Alleluia,  Alleluia, Alleluia

Fr Jim Doherty and Fr Lawrence Jones wish you all a very happy and holy Easter.

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Lent is over – it’s time to celebrate. The best wine is brought out for the celebration after the Easter Vigil….

A great Good Friday hymn

O Sacred Head, now wounded:

O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;
How pale Thou art with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!
How does that visage languish, which once was bright as morn!

What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners’ gain;
Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ’Tis I deserve Thy place;
Look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.

What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend,
For this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end?
O make me Thine forever, and should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.
