Morpeth is the County Town of Northumberland. It is a small market town situated in South Northumberland on the banks of the River Wansbeck and St Robert of Newminster Church stands in a beautiful spot next to the river.

St Robert of Newminster Parish shares it’s site with St Robert’s First School

and has active Catholic Women’s League, St Vincent de Paul and Catenian groups running.

*****  COVID 19 Coronavirus Information  *****

Because of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Epidemic, all public Masses at St Robert of Newminster Catholic Church and St Bede’s Catholic Church, Bedlington are cancelled until further notice.

Following the statement of the Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday 23rd March, our churches are now closed to all people at all times until further notice.

Fr Peter will continue to celebrate Mass each day, (without a congregation) fulfilling the Mass Intentions for each day, for both St Robert’s Parish, Morpeth and St Bede’s Parish, Bedlington, praying for those intentions and praying for the intentions of all parishioners at this very difficult time.

It is unprecedented for us to be in this situation.  Daily and Sunday Mass is so important in the lives of so many Catholics in our parishes up and down the country and throughout the world.

We ask you to pray for all who are affected by this worldwide pandemic.

Sadly this notice also gives information about Funerals, Baptisms, and Weddings that are planned for the near future and also First Holy Communion celebrations and Receptions into the Church at Easter, that may be affected.

Here you will find links to the Message from Cardinal Vincent Nichols and some explanatory notes for our priests, deacons and parishes at this time.

Your Weekly Offering

During this time of not being able to attend Public Masses, you may be wondering about what to do about your weekly offering to the Church.  Please do not try to come to the Presbytery to drop off your weekly envelope.  Keep your offering until such time that we are once again back to our normal Sunday routine.  To make your life much easier, you could complete a Standing Order Mandate, where you ask your bank to take your collection amount out of your account and pay it directly into the Parish Account.  If you wish to do this copies of the Mandate are available here to download and complete and post to your bank.  Copies are also available in Church.

PDF version Morpeth Standing Order Mandate

Another way of making your weekly offering is direct via BACS.  You can go online to your Bank account and make an online payment.  Send an email to the parish email address and a link will be forwarded for you to follow to make a BACS payment.

Rededication of England to Mary

On Sunday 29th March there should have been a wonderful prayerful celebration in our churches rededicating England as the Dowry of Mary and asking her to fill our country with her blessings.  In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic there is even greater need for us to turn our Blessed Lady and ask her prayers.

Our Angelus Belll will chime at 12noon on Sunday, and although many of you will be unable to hear it, that will mark the time to say these special prayers

We encourage you on Sunday 29th March to pray this at home on your own or with your family.

All information about this can be found on  http://www.behold2020.com and the prayers can also be followed or downloaded  here Dowry of Mary Prayers for 29th March
