Welcome to the website of the Roman Catholic Parish of St Robert of Newminster, Morpeth

The Parish Priest is Fr Peter J Stott

*****     *****     *****     *****

St Robert’s is a Gem Church, which is open for worship and quiet prayer during daylight hours.

Morpeth is the County Town of Northumberland. It is a small market town situated in South Northumberland on the banks of the River Wansbeck and St Robert of Newminster Church stands in a beautiful spot next to the river.

St Robert of Newminster Parish shares it’s site with St Robert’s First School and has active Catholic Women’s League, St Vincent de Paul and Catenian groups running.

*****  COVID 19 Coronavirus Information  *****

Because of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Epidemic, all public Masses at St Robert of Newminster Catholic Church and St Bede’s Catholic Church, Bedlington are cancelled until further notice.

Fr Peter continues to celebrate Mass each day, fulfilling the Mass Intentions for each day, for both St Robert’s Parish, Morpeth and St Bede’s Parish, Bedlington, praying for those intentions and praying for the intentions of all parishioners at this very difficult time.

It is unprecedented for us to be in this situation.  Daily and Sunday Mass is so important in the lives of so many Catholics in our parishes up and down the country and throughout the world.

We ask you to pray for all who are affected by this worldwide pandemic.

We are not permitted to celebrate any Funerals in Church at this time.  All that is allowed is a Service at a Crematorium, or at a graveside in a Cemetery, with limited numbers of people attending, depending on the local authority guidelines, which at the moment for us in Northumberland is eight people.

Baptisms, and Weddings that are planned for the near future and also First Holy Communion celebrations and Receptions into the Church at Easter have been postponed, and new dates will be discussed once the coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.

These online resources are offered to help people live through the coronavirus pandemic. Their special quality is that they don’t come from theories; they all come from those with experience of social distancing or isolation, people who have lived this reality either intentionally like monks and nuns or against their will like hostages or the housebound. This is a new and difficult journey for most people but experienced guides give us hope along the way.

Your Weekly Offering

During this time of not being able to attend Public Masses, you may be wondering about what to do about your weekly offering to the Church.  Please do not try to come to the Presbytery to drop off your weekly envelope.  Keep your offering until such time that we are once again back to our normal Sunday routine.  To make your life much easier, you could complete a Standing Order Mandate, where you ask your bank to take your collection amount out of your account and pay it directly into the Parish Account.  If you wish to do this copies of the Mandate are available here to download and complete and post to your bank.  Copies are also available in Church.

PDF version Morpeth Standing Order Mandate

Another way of making your weekly offering is direct via BACS.  You can go online to your Bank account and make an online payment.  Send an email to the parish email address and a link will be forwarded for you to follow to make a BACS payment.
