This is “Gaudete” Sunday – Rejoice the Lord is near!

This is “Gaudete”  Sunday”. “Gaudete” means “rejoice”. That is why the priest wears the rose (pink) vestment today and the pink candle is lit on the Advent wreath.

This is Libera and Aled Jones in “Gaudete”, a sacred Christmas carol, composed sometime in the 16th century. Soloist: Liam Connery. It is part of the DVD entitled “Aled’s Christmas Carols” released in December 2008, a beautiful celebration of Christmas. It was recorded and filmed in Assisi. St Francis was the great promoter of the custom of the Christmas Crib. See the translation below.
